Template Editor Features

The CodeSmith Generator Template Editor is a full-featured IDE for templates, with many of the editing features you know from Visual Studio.

Writing code

• Statement completion: IntelliSense member lists, quick info and parameter info, including for anonymous types and LINQ.
• Code snippets: insert reusable, Visual Studio-compatible snippets with fields you fill in.
• Documentation comment editing: add XML documentation comments that show up in quick info.

Finding your way around

• Template navigation: the navigation bar, Go To Definition, View Code and Go To Line.
• Find and replace: search and replace text, with regular expressions or wildcards.
• Incremental search: search as you type.
• Bracket highlighting: see matching brackets and jump between them.
• Outlining: collapse and expand blocks of code.

Working with the editor

• Line modification markers: see which lines you've changed and saved.
• Tab groups and split windows: edit several files, or two parts of one file, side by side.
• Themes and syntax highlighting: syntax highlighting for many languages, and color themes.
• Keyboard shortcuts: every Template Editor shortcut in one table.
