Installing CodeSmith Generator

Before you start, check the system requirements.

Download the installer

Download the CodeSmith Generator installer from the downloads page. If you need a previous version, contact us.

Run the installer

1. Double-click the installer you downloaded. If Windows shows a security warning, click Run.

2. On the Custom Setup page, choose the features to install. Click the icon to the left of a feature and pick one of these options:

   Option	What it means
   Will be installed on local hard drive	Installs the feature.
   Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive	Installs the feature and all of its sub-features.
   Feature will be installed when required	Installs the feature the first time you do something that needs it.
   Entire feature will be unavailable	Doesn't install the feature.

   On the same page, click Browse to change the folder Generator is installed in. To keep the defaults, click Next.

3. On the next page, choose where to put the samples folder. Click Browse to change it, then click Next.

   Important

   Your user account must have read and write permission to the samples folder you choose.

4. Finish the installer.

By default, the samples folder is in your Documents folder (Documents\CodeSmith Generator). See CodeSmith Generator samples for what it contains.
