Deploying a Custom Schema Provider

To install your schema provider on another computer:

1. Make sure the assembly's file name ends with SchemaProvider.dll.
2. Copy the compiled assembly (bin\SchemaExplorer.CustomSchemaProvider.dll in this example) to the SchemaProviders folder of the CodeSmith Generator installation folder, for example C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeSmith\v8.5\SchemaProviders.
3. To use the schema provider from Generator inside Visual Studio, also add the assembly to the global assembly cache.
4. Restart Generator and Visual Studio.

Updating for a new version of Generator

When you upgrade Generator, rebuild your schema provider against the new version:

1. In your project, remove the references to Generator's assemblies (SchemaExplorer and CodeSmith.Core).
2. Add them again from the new Generator installation folder, as described in Creating a custom schema provider.
3. To check that a reference points to the right version, select it in Solution Explorer and look at its Version in the Properties window.
4. Rebuild the project, and deploy it again to the SchemaProviders folder.
